The Cambridges and Prince Harry today joined the extended royal family for The Queen’s annual Christmas lunch.

And they will have to keep the presents hidden at Buckingham Palace as Prince George has joined the party.

Prince William yesterday revealed the mischievous three-year-old has been helping himself to gifts under the family tree.

Arriving by Range Rover at the gates of Buckingham Palace at around 12.30, the Duke was in the driving seat with brother Harry alongside as Kate looked after George and Princess Charlotte in the back.

Harry enjoys spending time with his brother’s family, and Prince George is a big fan of rough and tumble games with his uncle.

And following the trio’s appearance at a charity event yesterday, it is the second day in a row Harry has been accompanied by William and Kate as he faces Christmas without love Meghan Markle.

The US actress flew home to Toronto on Sunday after a romantic week at Kensington Palace with Harry.

But Prince George may be disappointed, as he was when the Obamas visited Kensington Palace and left Harry on his best behaviour.

Michelle Obama revealed the little prince repeatedly asked “Uncle Harry, why are you so quiet?” because he expected some lively games with his beloved uncle rather than a formal dinner situation.

The event is the largest gathering of royals throughout the year and is The Queen’s chance to catch up with many members of her extended family who do not spend Christmas Day with her at Sandringham.

Today’s lunch comes as the Monarch announced that she will be handing over 25 of her 600 patronages to younger members of her family as she ends her 90th birthday year.

There are no photographs released from inside the annual lunch, but the royals are usually pictured arriving by car ahead of the event, many driving themselves.

Other royals seen arriving today included Prince Charles and Camilla, Zara Tindall and her husband Mike as well as Prince Andrew’s daughters Eugenie and Beatrice.

Last year Prince George stole the show on arrival by car with Kate and Prince Harry showing off his mop of curly hair.

The year before he was pictured clutching a book as he sat in his car seat.

William missed the lunch in 2015 as he was attending a memorial service for the father of his close friend Guy Pelly.

The Cambridges will be attending the event ahead of travelling to the Middletons’ Georgian mansion in Bucklebury for Christmas.

Prince Harry is joining The Queen at Sandringham before being reunited with girlfriend Meghan Markle for New Year.
