PM Modi Congratulates Pakistan’s Imran Khan, Talks Of Peace And Development

July 29, 2018 by upbeacon.net Leave a Comment

The former worldwide cricket star Imran Khan promises a “new Pakistan” as he claimed victory in the country’s general election. Khan is close to achieving that goal.

Other than the parties, 13 independent candidates also won their seats.

Meanwhile, in Islamabad, the PTI said in a statement that Khan thanked Prime Minister Modi for his good wishes.

“Should Pakistan have to negotiate an International Monetary Fund bailout, the energy projects would be among the ones with question marks around them”, because of large liabilities and costs to the Pakistani government, Small said. In Pakistan there are many smaller parties and independents, holding around 50 assembly seats. He openly cast his vote in the NA-53 constituency on 25 July, surrounded by his friends and supporters.

Pakistan’s National Assembly comprises a total of 342 members, of which 272 are directly elected.

His political party has repeatedly called this election unfair, and party leaders had discussed boycotting the parliament.

The cricketer-turned-politician is likely to need coalition partners to secure power, however. Shahbaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League won 63 seats.

“We want to improve our relations with India, if their leadership also wants it”.

Former cricket star Imran Khan has declared victory in Pakistan’s parliamentary election and vowed to run the country “as it has never before been run” by fighting corruption, seeking regional cooperation and forging a new relationship with the United States that was not “one-sided”.

Several key parties in Pakistan have begun to coalesce around Imran Khan, paving the way for him to form a majority in the National Assembly and ascend to the premiership.

“Ghani told Imran that Pakistan and Afghanistan have historic relations and invited him for a tour of the country”, he said. Until now, only the elections in 2008 and 2013 were open and democratic.

“Sirf” Imran Khan may not cut it, if he wants to be prime minister.

This year’s election took place in relative peace, partly owing to the presence of 370,000 troops at polling sites.

The PTI’s success resulted from a combination of factors.

One of the key planks of Khan’s campaign was to highlight the corruption charges against the incumbent Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), a key driver of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The PML-N and other parties have alleged “blatant” rigging over the vote count. The PTI made major inroads in the mega-city Karachi, where its candidates defeated long-established parties.

Analysts had also predicted that the PPP could become kingmaker in any coalition, but on Friday a PTI spokesman ruled them out.

Michael Gahler, leader of a European Union team that monitored the balloting, said, “Overall, the election results are credible”. First, how involved was the military in producing a result that many in the country believe the generals wanted?

It will take time to answer these questions.
