Southern Ski fields are lapping up the high visitor numbers and will stay open an extra week to reel in Australian visitors during the first week of their school holidays. Coronet Peak is looking at a record number of visitors if things continue in the first “lockdown-free” season since 2019. Coronet Peak and Treble Cone have decided to give themselves an extra week and will close on October 2. Coronet Peak general manager Nigel Kerr said the decision was an easy one as the snow was good and the crowds to the ski field even better. Gondola to link Queenstown to The Remarkables skifield
Plans are afoot for a $50 million, 9.8km gondola from Queenstown's Remarkables Park Town Centre to the Remarkables Ski Area. The gondola would operate from a Gondola Events Plaza, adjacent to the centre in Frankton, and link to NZSki's base building at the ski field. The ride would take about 27 minutes. Queenstown investment and development company Porter Group chairman Alastair Porter said the project, the longest gondola in Australasia, would be a "significant" investment in regional and national tourism infrastructure and the resort played a key role in attracting tourists to the country. "However, we live in a world where tourism is highly competitive, and it's extremely important for New Zealand to continue to invest in major tourist infrastructure to keep refreshing and enhancing our international appeal," he said. Mike Pence–backed candidate for Wisconsin Rebecca Kleefisch has gained a slight edge over Donald Trump 's pick Tim Michels, according to the latest polls. A survey by Emerson College Polling found that 36 percent of Republican primary voters in Wisconsin favored Kleefisch, a former lieutenant governor, over Michels, while the Trump-backed millionaire businessman received the support of 34 percent of voters. Other candidates lagged behind, with Timothy Ramthun receiving 8 percent of support among Republican voters, Kevin Nicholson 6 percent and Adam Fischer only 1 percent. Some 14 percent of voters were still undecided, but a majority of voters—41 percent— said to be leaning toward voting for Kleefisch, while 39 percent were leaning toward supporting Michels' candidacy. Roads reopen after snow in the South, cold front heads north

Commuters can expect delays on Southern motorways, but with snow warnings travelling North , the cold front is far from over. Owner of dogs that killed Northland man ‘absolutely distraught’
1 NEWS The family of a mauled 69-year-old man says he was attacked by his friend’s dogs. The man who owned the dogs that killed a 69-year-old in the Northland town of Panguru is cooperating with police. The man was “absolutely distraught” when he found Neville Thomson dead on the property on Thursday, detective senior sergeant Mark Dalzell said. “It was a very confronting situation for him ... a horror situation.” A post-mortem investigation on Saturday confirmed Thomson died from injuries consistent with a dog attack.
