Sarah Michelle Gellar has recently reflected on female-led superhero movies, explaining how audiences do not accept women in the leading cast of Marvel movies. In a new interview with The Guardian , Sarah, who played a vampire slayer in Buffy series, said, “Genre is where women can really succeed and hold an audience.” The Cruel Intentions star continued, “Every time a Marvel movie tries to do a female cast, it just gets torn apart. “Unfortunately, audiences weren’t as accepting. There’s still this mentality of ‘the male superhero’, this very backwards way of thinking,” claimed 45-year-old. In previous interview with Independent , Sarah revealed that she was being branded as “difficult” woman during early days of her career. “A lot of times on sets, you’re told not to make waves’, ‘You’re replaceable.’ And in Hollywood, and when you’re specifically a young female and you speak up about things, you’re labelled as ‘difficult’. However, she commented, “But now I’ll … [Read more...] about Sarah Michelle Gellar explains how audiences are unwilling to accept female-led Marvel movies

Austrian police said Monday they arrested a 54-year-old man after he attacked two social workers with pepper spray when they found him living illegally in a private wine cellar in northeastern Austria with a woman and six young children. Police in the Austrian province of Lower Austria were still trying to determine the identity of six children, who were from 7 months to 5 years old. Neighbors in Obritz, a small town near the Czech border, alerted local authorities last week that there was a family living illegally in a local wine cellar. "Residents sometimes heard children's voices in the basement," the town's vice-mayor, Erich Greil, told the Austrian broadcaster ORF. "As soon as (local residents) approached, it went quiet." When two social workers arrived last Thursday to check on the children, police said the man attacked them with pepper spray and barricaded the door to the cellar. The social workers called the police, who arrived on the scene and arrested the man. … [Read more...] about Man arrested after woman and 6 young children found living illegally in Austrian wine cellar

‘Climate Quitting’: Young Workers Are Jumping Ship When Companies Don’t Care Enough About The Environment | The Daily Wire

Young workers in Western nations are leaving their jobs at increasing levels over a desire to work for companies they believe are committed to fighting climate change . The phenomenon of “climate quitting” occurs as multiple surveys indicate that professionals in younger cohorts prefer their employers to take active stands on social and political issues. Some 46% of workers and students in the United Kingdom want their employers to demonstrate a devotion to the environmental, social, and corporate governance movement, also known as ESG , according to a poll from the accounting firm KPMG. Roughly one in five respondents had refused a job offer when the company’s approach to ESG was not aligned with their values; one in three employees between 18 and 24 said the same. Some 64% of office workers said there are certain sectors in which they will not work due to ethical reasons, while 82% of respondents placed “some importance” on the possibility of linking their values and … [Read more...] about ‘Climate Quitting’: Young Workers Are Jumping Ship When Companies Don’t Care Enough About The Environment | The Daily Wire

Gori the hungry young hippo struggled while trying to get to grips with his underwater birthday cake. The young hippo was celebrating his 2nd birthday at Valencia Bioparc in Spain on May 25 when keepers cooked up a special treat for him. Video footage released by the zoo shows how a cake full of Gori's favorite treats was prepared and then sunk into his pool for him to find. He made short work of the fruit and veggie birthday snack with just a few bites from his massive jaws. The common hippopotamus ( Hippopotamus amphibius ) is listed as vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) red list and its main threat is habitat loss. Bioparc actively participates in its conservation through the European breeding program. Bioparc says it also concentrates on environmental enrichment which aims to improve the quality of life of animals by enhancing their instincts. Zoo chiefs are showing off six adorable rockhopper penguin chicks hatched by proud parents this spring. Keepers shared heartwarming footage of the youngsters, made famous in the film Happy Feet . Adult rockhoppers - endangered in the wild - are known for their distinctive yellow tufts on the sides of their heads. But the youngsters stole the show when the chicks lined up for their weigh-in, helped by handfuls of fresh fish as a treat for their good behavior. Other footage in the clip shows adults swimming in their glass-sided pool as they chase each other effortlessly through the water at the world's oldest zoo in Schoenbrunn (Tiergarten Schoenbrunn), in the Austrian capital of Vienna. The zoo said in its statement on Thursday: "A total of six rockhopper penguin chicks hatched in the last weeks of spring." The zoo added that visitors can now "see the offspring in the 'kindergarten' of the Polarium" area of the zoo. The zoo explained: "The young birds are fed fish twice … [Read more...] about Watch: Adorable Rockhopper Penguin Chicks Steal the Show
