Chinese media outlets have mocked U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi 's visit to Taiwan with a series of unflattering cartoons. Pelosi's visit to the self-ruled island last week sparked a furor, with China announcing on Monday that it was extending its military exercises in the Taiwan Strait. China has also cut off defense and climate talks with the U.S. and imposed sanctions on Pelosi in retaliation for the visit. Taiwan has maintained a separate government from China since 1949, but China insists the island is its territory and has not ruled out using military force. The U.S. doesn't recognize Taiwan as independent under its "one China" policy but has pledged to help the island protect itself against any aggression. Beijing considers visits to Taiwan by foreign officials to be a recognition of the island's sovereignty. Several cartoons published by Chinese state media in recent days slammed Pelosi's visit. One cartoon published by the Xinhua News Agency showed a … [Read more...] about How Chinese cartoonists mocked Nancy Pelosi over Taiwan visit

Edifier Stax Spirit S3 planar headphones sound amazing but lack features
Edifier's Stax Spirit S3 planar headphones provide exceptional sound by doing things differently than more traditional ones. Instead of using cone-shaped speakers in each earcup, these planar headphones use magnets on either side of a thin diaphragm to produce sound. The result is crisp, even sounds across a wider frequency range with more distinct separation. The clarity is remarkable. While music and audio sound exceptional, there are some trade-offs. This technology isn't new, but it is more expensive compared to using traditional dynamic drivers. Plus some people don't like the enhanced clarity that is offered. It's a little like the debate between whether a vinyl record or CD playing the same song sounds better. Edifier Stax Spirit S3 retail for approximately $399, and they are priced affordably for planar headphones. While the audio is excellent, some of the design choices and the lack of certain features won't make these headphones a slam dunk for everyone. Still, anyone … [Read more...] about Edifier Stax Spirit S3 planar headphones sound amazing but lack features

A Chinese diplomat has criticized America, saying the U.S. "makes war" whereas China "makes everything else". She also mocked a warship from Taiwan, which China considers a renegade province, which she described as a "museum piece". On Twitt er Zhang posted a split photo with an armed soldier in the top half, and boxes marked "Made in China" below. She wrote: "The #US makes war. #China makes most everything else. My daughter uninvited me from her wedding—what should I do?
Dear Newsweek, I am the mother of four children— three girls and my son is the youngest. Our son has gotten into some domestic trouble with an on/off girlfriend. One time, our youngest daughter tried to kick his girlfriend out of our home when he and his girlfriend wouldn't comply with our wishes and leave our home. My daughter and son got arrested after I and his girlfriend called the police because the argument became physical and out of hand. After this incident, for that daughter's engagement last September, I threw a special surprise engagement party for them with both sides of the family at a country club in February. Less than two weeks after that party, this daughter heard my son in the background of our phone conversation (as he was at my home) and became unhinged and said she was ending our relationship. She said I never protected her and that she resents me and asked me not to contact her anymore. I tried to tell her I never expected her to be in the same … [Read more...] about My daughter uninvited me from her wedding—what should I do?
